Healthy Living Tips: The Best Ways to Lose Weight
Welcome to 8 Healthy Steps. This is a program that will teach you a better way to eat, PERIOD! This is not about some rigid diet program. No, it’s about learning healthy living tips that will lead you to a healthier lifestyle. And if you are overweight, it’s not only one of the easy ways to lose weight, it’s one of the best ways to lose weight.
Our health is really all we have in life. When we lose our health, no other part of living The American Dream means anything.
I recently went through a health scare of my own. I was looking at life changing events. My new lovely wife was scared to death, and so was I. But I can simply say that my 35 years of eating healthy really paid off.
You see Prostate Cancer runs in my family. So here I was faced with possibly the same outlook, but I’m very happy to say that I was cancer free. I feel with every ounce in my body that if I would have been a junk food junkie the past 35 years like most Americans, and most of my family, I probably would have had a negative outcome.
Our health is everything. Better yet, the quality of our health is everything! I don’t want to be 65 and in a wheelchair just because I’m just too fat to walk. Or I don’t want to be suffering with arthritis, or whatever. I want to be 65 and still riding my mountain bike and kicking the 20-year olds’ butts. And it looks like I will be doing just that!
If you are overweight, you don’t have to be. That is a choice you make. The best ways to lose weight is to change your lifestyle. One of the difinitions of insanity is “doing the same thing over and over again expecting a different result”. If you want to change your weight, the easy way to lose weight is to change what you are doing, and make that change last, forever!
Here’s one for ya. I love this! I went to my urologist today and he walked in with his arm in a sling (he is 49). The first words out of my mouth were “Bike Crash“? He said “yes, broken Clavicle” (collar bone). His next words were, “I’ll be riding again in about 6 weeks“. Yeah Baby! He’s a road rider. He was telling his nurse that he and Lance Armstrong have something in common. It seems that Lance once broke his Clavicle too. He’s looking forward to me showing him some of the mountain bike trails here locally too. That will be fun!
You can either sit on the couch for the rest of your life, or you can get off your butts and enjoy life. I like the latter best myself.
8 Healthy Steps is all about feeding your body with the good stuff. It’s up to you to have fun with your body. Get outdoors and enjoy yourself and do things to keep your body strong. Keep your insides strong too.
I had an echo cardiogram lately. The technicians first words out of his mouth were, “are you a marathon runner“? I said “no, mountain biker for 20 years“. He said, “keep doing what you’re doing because your standing heart rate is only 54, a healthy heart“.
Here is another story for you. Back in 1989 I had complete shoulder reconstruction. The surgeon, the most prominent orthopedic surgeon in America at the time, told me words to this day that are still the nicest words any person has ever said to me (well, being told I didn’t have prostate cancer was pretty good too). He said that I had the healthiest tissue he had ever seen (I had been a vegetarian for about 12 years at the time). I say this because I must be doing something right. What I have been doing is following 8 Healthy Steps (don’t worry, it does not promote that you become a vegetarian).
And I’m not not perfect either. I still have ice cream now and then. Or I still sneak some chocolate or a pizza, but it comes down to your everyday health habits, and overall, you want them to be good.
